Who We Are

"A conference built by the community, for the community — in the heart of the Volta Region."

PyHo is the annual Python conference organized by the Python User Group Ho — a grassroots community of developers, builders, students, and open-source contributors based in Ho, Ghana's Volta Region.

The conference brings together Python enthusiasts of all experience levels for two days of learning, building, and connecting. Whether you've been writing Python for a decade or you're curious about what it even is — PyHo is for you.

PyHo 2026 is our most ambitious edition yet. We're introducing the Builders Lab Sprint — a new day-long hands-on track where developers team up to ship real things — alongside the beloved Django Girls Ho workshop and a full day of community-selected talks.

What We Stand For

Our Values

Every decision we make at PyHo — from how we select talks to how we price tickets — comes back to these principles.

Community First

PyHo exists because of volunteers — people who give their time, skills, and energy to build something meaningful for the local developer community. The conference is by the community, for the community.

Radical Inclusion

We actively work to ensure that PyHo reflects the full diversity of our community — across gender, background, experience level, and discipline. Everyone belongs here.

Builders Over Spectators

We believe the best learning happens when you make things. That's why the 2026 edition introduces the Builders Lab Sprint — because talking about code matters, but shipping it matters more.

Local Roots, Global Standards

PyHo is deeply rooted in Ho and the Volta Region, but we hold ourselves to the same standards as the best Python conferences anywhere in the world — in content quality, safety, and experience.

Safety & Respect

Every attendee, speaker, sponsor, and volunteer deserves to feel safe and respected. Our Code of Conduct is not optional — it applies to everyone, everywhere at PyHo, without exception.

Transparency

We are open about how talks are selected, how the budget is managed, and how decisions are made. We publish our processes so the community can hold us accountable and improve over time.

Our Foundation

The Python Software Foundation

PyHo is produced in association with the Python Software Foundation (PSF) — the nonprofit organization whose mission is to promote, protect, and advance the Python programming language and to support and facilitate the growth of a diverse and international community of Python programmers.

The PSF supports community events like PyHo through grants, fiscal sponsorship, and by providing resources that help organizers run high-quality, welcoming conferences around the world. Our partnership with the PSF connects PyHo to a global network of Python communities — from PyCon US to Python events across Africa, Europe, Asia, and beyond.

PyHo's organizers are active members of the PSF community and are committed to upholding the PSF's values of openness, diversity, and community collaboration in everything we do.

Code of Conduct

Our Commitment to a Respectful Community

PyHo is dedicated to providing a harassment-free conference experience for everyone — regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, religion (or lack thereof), or technology choices.

We do not tolerate harassment of conference participants in any form. Conference participants violating these rules may be sanctioned or expelled from the conference without a refund at the discretion of the conference organizers.

This Code of Conduct applies to all PyHo spaces — talks, workshops, the sprint, social events, online channels, and any other spaces created or officially endorsed by the PyHo organizers.

Our Code of Conduct is based on the PSF Code of Conduct and adapted for the PyHo context. We are grateful to the broader Python community for developing these shared standards.

Expected Behaviour

Be Welcoming

Use inclusive language. Welcome people from all backgrounds and experience levels. Go out of your way to make newcomers feel comfortable.

Be Respectful

Different people have different perspectives and experience. Disagreement is fine — but be respectful. Criticism should be directed at ideas, not people.

Be Considerate

Your work will be used by other people and you in turn will depend on the work of others. What you do affects your community, so take those consequences into account.

Be Kind

It's okay to make mistakes. Be kind to others when they make mistakes, and be kind to yourself. We're all learning, and learning is the whole point of being here.

Diversity & Inclusion

Everyone Belongs Here

We believe that a diverse Python community makes Python stronger. PyHo is committed to creating an environment where people from all backgrounds can fully participate, contribute, and thrive.

We know that diversity doesn't happen by accident. It takes deliberate effort, active outreach, and structural support. These are the concrete steps we take to build a more inclusive conference every year.

Django Girls Ho Partnership

We co-host the Django Girls Ho workshop — a free programming event specifically for women and non-binary people — as part of PyHo weekend. This is one of our most important community commitments.

Financial Aid & Travel Grants

We set aside a portion of every sponsorship to fund financial assistance grants for attendees who would otherwise be unable to attend. Applications are reviewed by a blind panel.

Diverse Speaker Outreach

Our programme committee actively reaches out to first-time speakers, speakers from underrepresented groups, and speakers from outside the major cities. We run a speaker mentorship programme for first-timers.

Safe Spaces & Conduct Enforcement

Our Code of Conduct applies everywhere at PyHo. We train our volunteers in incident response and provide multiple channels for reporting concerns — including anonymously.

Health & Safety

Your Safety Is Our Priority

PyHo is committed to ensuring every attendee can participate safely and comfortably. Our health and safety policies are reviewed and updated before each event.

First Aid

A certified first-aider will be on-site throughout the conference. The nearest hospital — Ho Teaching Hospital — is approximately 5 minutes by vehicle from the conference venue.

Venue Safety

The conference venue has clearly marked emergency exits, accessible facilities, and designated quiet areas. A venue safety briefing will be given at the start of each day.

Personal Safety

All attendees are encouraged to wear their conference badges at all times inside the venue. Our volunteers are briefed on safety procedures and are available to assist.
